For decades, there was a lot of noise about a world that was standing room only. Remember Soylent Green? Personally, I was a sucker for that Ehrlich fellow. He never made a prediction that couldn’t be incredibly wrong. Movies, film, and popular culture imagined a global populace crammed onto land like frat boys stuffed in a phone booth.
Right now, that’s not the thing we’re anxious about. Certainly, there are still some immense challenges in the whole feed everyone department. Our arable land’s carrying capacity is still a concern, but it’s clear that the move from a rural to urban existence is altering demographics. The population climb is slowing.
